About Me
Sarah Etinas is a travel writer and editor who specializes in SEO (search engine optimization), content creation, CMS (content management systems), and SEM (search engine marketing).
After obtaining her undergraduate degree in English Writing & Rhetoric from Pepperdine University in California, Sarah returned to her home island of Oahu, Hawaii, where she pursued her master’s degree in professional writing (MSPW) at the New York University (NYU) School of Professional Studies. Through the MSPW program, Sarah strengthened many applicable skills, including writing, editing, and proofreading. She has written up marketing campaigns, developed in-depth research proposals, scripted an engaging podcast, crafted a professional collaborative white paper, and established effective social media strategies.
Sarah has also written for a variety of online and in-print publications, including HONOLULU Magazine, Hawaii Parent Magazine, Insider, Time Out, TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet, and Thrillist. Her articles primarily focus on travel, culture, food, and the outdoors. In the past, these pieces have included everything from fun, exciting articles, such as “18 Hidden Disney Secrets You Aren’t Supposed to Know About” to others that take on a more serious topic, such as “Beyond the Picture-Perfect Beaches of Hawaii.” While writing for these publications, Sarah put many of her skills to use and developed a few more, including content management system (CMS), search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing, data analysis, photography sourcing, and brand partnerships.
Over the years, Sarah has taken on quite a few big-time opportunities as well. She was hired as an adjunct professor at New York University (NYU) to teach the “Global Presentations: Words, Images, and Data” course for NYU's Certificate in Professional Writing. She works as a Hawaiian diacritic mark expert for the publishing giant, Penguin Random House. And she co-authored three Hawaii Lonely Planet guidebooks about her home state of Hawaii.
When she’s not writing, Sarah is practicing what she preaches – she’s continuing to explore her home, traveling to new cities or countries, munching on the strangest dishes, or hiking to cascading waterfalls.
