Penguin Random House is a client that keeps me on my toes, one that switches things up in the best way possible. I started working with them in 2022, when they reached out to me about being the local expert and copyeditor on Lei Aloha by Meleana Estes. My job was to ensure the accuracy of the Hawaiian diacritic marks (the ʻokina and the kahakō) and to verify any tidbits about local Hawaii life. I’m particularly proud of the work I did on that project, helping to accurately bring a bit of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (the Hawaiian language) to a larger stage.

Since then, I’ve worked on dozens of other projects with Penguin Random House as a slugger, cold reader, and copyeditor. While they’ve all been non-fiction works, they’ve touched on just about every category within the broad genre, from a tarot coloring book to an ADHD self-empowerment book.

“Sarah has a keen eye to shape up any piece of writing, whether she’s copyediting or cold-reading. Her attention to detail on Penguin Random House books and gift products has helped fine-tune text to make it more clear, concise, and consistent for readers.

She’s shown she can tackle any type of project from non-fiction to illustrated books, journals, card decks, and more—Sarah can handle it all and isn’t afraid to ask the right questions to get the job done right.”
